About This Case
This patient was referred to Dr Jarrad Elson for an aesthetic assessment.
She was quite conscious of the dark appearance of her front teeth, and after several bouts of whitening treatments, there had been no results.
A smile assessment revealed that the discolouration was caused by acid wear of the front teeth, which had eroded the enamel, exposing the darker dentine layer underneath. This explained why previous whitening had been unsuccessful.
The Details
Primary treatment: Whitening with carbamide peroxide, and composite veneers using injection-moulding technique.
Treatment time: 12 weeks
This acid erosion had affected both the front and back surfaces of the upper front teeth.
Due to the wide smile, it was decided that in order to create a natural and harmonious smile, we would need to undertake general whitening, followed by restorative treatment of the upper front teeth.
After some trial and error, it was found that the overnight-whitening treatment with low concentration carbamide peroxide, undertaken for a period of four weeks, had a good effect.
Following this, a smile design was carried out, and the upper front teeth were restored with composite veneers, using the injection-moulding technique.
