About This Case
This patient was referred to Dr Jarrad Elson for an aesthetic assessment.
This patient was born with ‘peg’ lateral incisors, meaning that two teeth were naturally very small and pointy. Previous treatment had involved gum recontouring surgery, and composite restorations.
The patient had noticed that the existing restorations had become discoloured and stained over time. She was wishing to improve the appearance of her teeth, so that she could smile in photos without worrying if the stains would be showing.
The Details
Primary treatment: Gum recontouring and ceramic restorations.
Treatment time: Eight months.
A smile analysis identified that not only were the existing restorations developing discolouration, but the gum levels were not in harmony.
As such, the treatment plan involved gum recontouring surgery, followed by ceramic restorations placed on the anterior teeth.
Ceramic was chosen as a material due to its long-term resistance to staining. Gum recontouring surgery was undertaken followed by six months of tissue maturation. Following this, ceramic restorations were placed on the upper anterior teeth.
