About This Case
This patient had been contemplating treatment to improve her smile for some time. She was becoming more and more conscious of her smile during photographs, and was concerned the apperance of her teeth might have an affect on her relationship with her grandchildren.
The smile had been affected by existing crowns and a bridge, which were placed when she was in her twenties. Unfortunaltey, this dental work had become more unsightly over time.
Through a smile design, gum recontouring, site development and replacement of the ceramic crowns and bridge, Dr. Jarrad Elson was able to deliver a result that both he and the patient were thrilled about.
The Details
Primary treatment – Gum recontouring and replacement of ceramic crowns and bridge.
Treatment time – Nine months
There were several problems with the existing crown and bridgework – crowns were quite bulky, there were dark areas where the gums had receded, and the teeth had an overall mismatch of shade.
The gumline was also uneven, which was on display due to her high smile line.
The patient was willing to undergo extensive treatment, which took a period of nine months. This involved gum recontouring and soft tissue surgery, with a healing period of six months, followed by removal of exising dental work.
A temporary bridge was made to mimic the final ceramics, to give the new smile a ‘test drive’, and to develop the false-tooth site to give a convincing illusion that this is a real tooth emerging from the gums.
